Slugfest Colors: Merchant

Posted on May 17, 2010

merchant_color_lines Here is another in the series of Slugfest Games images that Kennon James and I did together.

This was a fun one to do with the glowing pile of gold at the bottom providing a bit of secondary lighting - which is something I don't do a lot with but I really enjoy adding in when I have the opportunity. And again, Kennon's lines were just a LOT of fun to color.

Ugh, what a week. The past month (and longer for Emily because she is more sensitive to these things than I am), there has been a sort of noxious odor in our house. It has sort of smelt like gas and so we had the furnace guy out to look at our furnace and came to find out our furnace is pretty much shot. Three cracked heat exchanges which cannot be replaced since they don't make them anymore.

But, since we just bought the house we have a home warranty for this sort of stuff, right?

WRONG! Apparently, it doesn't matter to the home warranty people whether or not the unit is busted or spewing out noxious gas. If the unit is still functioning and the gas levels aren't high enough to hurt us, they won't replace anything. Nevermind that the unit is actually busted and making our house next to unlivable. Nevermind that even if the damn thing isn't spewing out toxic emissions at the moment, it could do it at any time which could in turn affect my daughter due in the next few months. Idiocy.

Ugh.

Guess we'll be replacing it on our own. Don't bother with purchasing a home warranty.

Life, art, work, and website.

The last year and a half has been nuts.

I went from being a single man to being married, buying a house, owning two dogs, and having a baby on the way. It's been exciting, wonderful, trying, and tiring. All at once. I hope it never changes. It is absolutely crazy how so much can happen in such a small amount of time.

Of course, through all that, work hasn't slowed down at all.

Over 2009, I completed a comic (based on Inuit folklore), relaunched Baeg Tobar, launched an Outland Entertainment project with Jeff Wamester and Matt Jacobs called WMD. Did a series of illustrations based on Alexander the Great. And colored a whole bunch of comic pages (again, over Jeff Wamester) for a company called Taylor Made Comics.

I'll be posting this material right here on this site over the next year. I think I'll go ahead and start with one of my Alexander the Great pieces completed for Pearson Educational Group. This was a really fun project to work on and I am very, very proud of the work. This is the first time I've posted it anywhere and I have four other pieces I'll be posting in the near future as well!

In addition, I also suffered a terrible loss. We laid to rest my former hard drive around the beginning of this month. Not only did my hard drive die, but it took just about everything on it with it to the grave. Nothing was recoverable. Due to what I laid out above, I have been terribly behind on backing up my data. Sometimes, lessons have to be learned the hard way and in this case, that's just what happened. I'm not going to ever go through this particular loss again. If you aren't making regular backups, take it from me - go back up your data now.

I will also be updating the projects section of the site with more information regarding my various projects. I will likely have news on several upcoming projects as well in the very near future (at least I hope too).

Anyway, I have a lot of plans for this website and I am going to work hard to keep up with maintaining the site and material. And I hope you all let me know what you think as well!

Thanks!
